Fatal Explosion in Central Somalia
Written by Ali Moallim

Hiraan, (insidesomalia.org) - A roadside bomb targeting a government vehicle has exploded in a central Somali town, killing six people and wounding twenty-six more.

"Four people died on the spot and two others died on their way to the hospital," said Osman Adan, who runs a pharmacy near the scene of the explosion, AFP quoted.

Hiraan regional governor Yusuf Ahmed Hagar has blamed the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) fighters for the attack in the Beledwein Township.

"We are very much concerned about the explosion that killed many civilians in Beledwein today. It is unfortunate that insurgents are planting bombs in the civilian sites," Hagar added.

Guerrilla fighting has killed thousands of people and forced hundreds of thousands to flee mainly from Mogadishu, the epicenter of clashes.

After being ousted from southern and central regions by Ethiopian-backed Somali troops in early 2007, the ICU has attacked government targets across Somalia.
